Strong Christmas boosts Fuller's pubs

A strong Christmas has helped pub firm Fuller, Smith & Turner to boost sales in its managed pubs and hotels division.

The company enjoyed a 5.3% rise in like-for-like sales over the 43 weeks to 23 January 2016 in the managed pubs and hotels arm.

That's according to a brief trading statement issued from the company today, ahead of its preliminary results for the full year to 26 March 2016, which will be released on 10 June 2016.

Meanwhile, like-for-like profits at its tenanted inns division were up 3%, although total beer and cider volumes in the Fuller's Beer Company dropped by 1%.

Simon Emeny, chief executive, said: "I am pleased to be reporting further strong trading. A good performance throughout the year has been boosted by another successful Christmas.

"Our long-term strategy of providing freshly cooked food, engaging service and an excellent portfolio of premium brands, supported by investment in our pubs to create stylish environments for our customers, continues to deliver consistently good results."

Fuller's has 190 managed pubs and hotels, and 202 tenanted pubs. It has 649 bedrooms within its hotels estate. It also owns a 51% stake in the Stable group of restaurants, which has 13 sites in the South and South West.
