Philip Harrison, head chef at the Anglesea Arms in Hammersmith, has been crowned the winner of the fourth Great Sausage Roll Off contest.
The competition took place at the Red Lion pub in Barnes on Wednesday (27 January) and raised more than £400 for children’s hospice charity Shooting Star Chase.
Harrison battled against 15 other chefs in front of a panel of judges and was declared the winner with his pheasant, black pudding purée and raw turnip salad creation.
Second place went to Ollie Couillaud, head chef at the Corner Restaurant and Champagne Bar at Selfridges, while third place was awarded to Jade Clarke, head chef at the Hinds Head in Aldermaston.
Harrison said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have won the Great Sausage Roll Off. I was up against some tough competition and it was a privilege to cook alongside the other worthy contestants. It is great to see how popular these competitions are becoming and it is fantastic to see such a wide range of creations from the chefs.”
Angus McKean, co-manager of the Red Lion, added: “2016 has definitely seen the Great Sausage Roll Off reach new heights and its success is a testament to the calibre of the chefs we have participating in the competition.
“I am delighted that Philip won; thoroughly well deserved. I am always amazed and inspired by the creations that come from these extremely talented chefs.”
The event was hosted by beer and food writer Melissa Cole and the judging panel was made up of Tom Kemble (head chef, Bonhams Restaurant), Thane Prince (Eat Judge on the Big Allotment Challenge), Kate Spicer (food critic) and Emma Spitzer (MasterChef 2015 Finalist).
