Seven things we learned from Gordon Campbell Gray

This week, Gordon Campbell Gray is the cover star of The Caterer. He shares his experience of creating a global hotel company, that has been fuelled by a new partnership with Cyprus-based trading company Audeh Group. Here are some of the highlights of what we learned from the 2002 Hotelier of the Year, who likes to do things in his own inimitable way.

1) He has been inspired in life by the late Anita Roddick, founder of the Body Shop. She told him: "Just do it", which Campbell Gray says was the best bit of advice. "Too many people are afraid in life to live."

2)

3) Corporate culture, Campbell Gray believes, generally creates very dull people.

4) Politeness and a caring culture are essential elements of the way Campbell Gray runs his business. "It can be enormously divisive if you don't care," he says.

5) Baby Gray - the new brand from the CambellGray Hotels stable - will be the "naughty son" of its parent Le Gray. It will feel young, but it won't be hip and trendy, and you won't need to be young to go there.

6) He has a passion for chocolate - everything from Cadbury's milk to the finest dark - and intends to create his own brand.

7) The hospitality industry's concern towards the environment has declined in the past 18 years, he says.
