Street Kitchen to open second permanent site

Bistrot-style street food vendor Street Kitchen is to open a second permanent site as part of a planned expansion over the next three years.

Launched by chefs Jun Tanaka and Mark Jankel in 2011, Street Kitchen distributes seasonal dishes billed as "slow food, fast" from two Airstream trailers in Devonshire Square and Broadgate Circle and a permanent shop in Broadgate Circle, all in London.

The Hatch will open in London Fields, East London, later this month serving eat in and takeaway. Breakfast dishes will include poached eggs with spinach and smokey tomato compote, and home-cured and smoked bacon. Lunch will feature crispy chicken with pickled red onions, crushed potatoes, bacon and old Winchester mayonnaise, alongside smoked fillet of Loch Duart salmon with marinated beets, celeriac yoghurt slaw and horseradish.

The Hatch will also be open in the evenings serving a selection of small sharing plate dishes.

Jankel said: "We've had an eye on the arches at London Fields for some time and are thrilled to have got our hands on one of them, so we can bring our delicious food to the neighbourhood. We are really excited to be experimenting with Middle Eastern style weekend brunches and to go back to our roots with our first restaurant-style evening menu.

"Our ambition is to disrupt the street food sector by offering ‘slow food, fast'. People want food that tastes amazing, is served quick, and brings together the highest quality ingredients. As we see it, we're sprinting towards a widening gap in the market.

"There's so much rubbish on the high street - whether it's been pumped full of hormones or is saturated with sugars. People say they're fans of Street Kitchen because we offer great food and great value, and insist on handpicking every single ingredient from trusted British suppliers who we know personally."
