Celtic Manor reveals new name for Hilton Newport hotel

The Celtic Manor Resort has renamed the 148-bedroom Hilton Newport as the Coldra Court hotel ahead of taking over the property at the end of March.

The hotel will also have a new manager, with Matthew Barnby (pictured) taking the helm. He will oversee the operational management from 31 March, leading the existing hotel team, which will remain in place.

Barnby has worked at the Celtic Manor Resort for 13 years, in a variety of roles including the management of events, golf, food and beverage, conference and banqueting, and most recently as part of the rooms management team.

He played a key role when the resort hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup and the 2014 NATO Summit.

He said: "I am really looking forward to the challenge of managing the Coldra Court hotel. The hotel has a strong reputation for hosting weddings and business events, as well as welcoming leisure guests, and we want to build on those qualities and improve and invest in both the property and the team.

"I feel I have learned a great deal about all aspects of hotel management during my time at Celtic Manor and I am looking forward to bringing this knowledge to my management of Coldra Court."

In his new role he will report to Matthew Lewis, operations director, Celtic Manor.

Lewis added: "The Coldra Court hotel by Celtic Manor is an exciting development for us and the additional bedrooms will be very welcome as we keep up with a growing conference and leisure market across the resort.

"Families and leisure guests will benefit from access to all the activities and restaurants at the main Celtic Manor Resort as well as the facilities within Coldra Court."

The acquisition will add to Celtic Manor's portfolio of guest residences, which include the main resort hotel, the Manor House, the Newbridge on Usk and 10 Hunter Lodges. It takes the Celtic Manor's total bedroom stock to almost 600.
