Third AC Hotels by Marriott in UK set for Belfast

Belfast City Council has given the go-ahead for the development of a 188-bedroom hotel in the City Quays area of the city.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the hotel will operate under the AC Hotels by Marriott design-led lifestyle brand. If confirmed, it will become the third AC hotel to open in the UK following the launch of hotels in Manchester and Birmingham, both which are being rebranded from Ramada properties.

City Quays is a £250m regeneration project of the Belfast waterfront which will include offices, retail, and residential space alongside the new hotel

Earlier this year, Marriott International announced that it intends to open 22 AC hotels worldwide. The brand was founded in 1998 in Spain by Antonio Catalán, who joined forces with Marriott in 2011 to operate the brand as a co-venture.

Today the brand has more than 80 hotels in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Turkey, France and the United States. Growth plans include more than 50 new hotels within the next three years.
Key design features of AC Hotels include open lobbies, libraries with books selected by guest curators; and monochromatic bedroom schemes with hardwood floors.

Other hotels currently under development in Belfast include the Titanic hotel at the former drawing offices of shipbuilders Harland and Wolff.
