Apex Hotels expands management structure as group grows

Apex Hotels has restructured its management to reflect the expansion of the family-owned group of nine hotels in Scotland and London.

Following the promotion of Angela Vickers from managing director to chief executive last year, two new cluster management roles have been created.

Taking on the role of regional director of the Scottish central belt is Simon Davis, who has been promoted from his previous position as general manager at the Apex City of London. He will oversee four hotels in Edinburgh and the new Apex City of Glasgow hotel which opened in September 2015, following the acquisition and refurbishment of Marks hotel.

Meanwhile, the three general managers in the three London hotels will now report to Oliver Raggett, who has joined the company from the Chesterfield Mayfair hotel, part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, where he was general manager. The Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa in Dundee is the only property in the group not to fall within the cluster structure.

Vicker's former managing director role has now been split between Yousif Al-Wagga, the group's former operations director who will continue to look after operations, and Avril Wilson, previously finance director, who will head the finance, human resources and IT part of the business.

Al-Wagga said that the new management structure has been put in place to oversee the growth of the group which was founded by Norman Springford in 1996. Springford stepped down from his role as chairman two years ago and was replaced by his son Ian.

"As well as the recent opening of our first hotel in Glasgow, we're working towards the development of a property in Bath," he explained. "We've also completed a 30-bedroom extension at the Apex City of London hotel and we're now looking to expand both the Apex Temple Court and Apex City Quay hotel in Dundee."
