Hotel Seattle Brighton to become a Malmaison

Malmaison will open its 14th hotel following the rebranding of the 71-bedroom Hotel Seattle in Brighton.

Hotel Seattle was acquired by Frasers Hospitality, the owner of Malmaison and sister brand Hotel du Vin, in December 2015, alongside three other hotels from Swire Properties Hotels Holdings, in a £36.1m deal.

The new Malmaison Brighton will emerge following a transformation of the waterfront property overlooking the Brighton Marina.

Originally built as a Holiday Inn Express, the Hotel Seattle was launched by Alias Hotels, founded by the owners of Luxury Family Hotels, in 2003 within what was then the newly built marina complex. Alias sold the hotel to Swire in 2006.

Scott Harper, chief operating officer of Malmaison, said: "The vibrant setting of Brighton's marina and wider Brighton and Hove area community is an ideal fit for our famous lifestyle brand. We can't wait to get started."

The Malmaison Brighton will sit alongside sister hotel, Hotel du Vin Brighton.

Further announcements are expected soon regarding the rebranding to either Malmaison or Hotel du Vin of the three other hotels bought from Swire. They include the 57-bedroom Avon Gorge hotel, Bristol; 59-bedroom Magdalen Chapter, Exeter; and 60-bedroom Montpellier Chapter, Cheltenham.

Malmaison's existing locations include Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Newcastle, Oxford and Reading.
