Dalata signs deal to operate new hotel in Belfast
Dalata Hotel Group has signed a deal with developer McAleer & Rushe to operate a new 206-bedroom hotel in Belfast, on the site of the former Belfast Metropolitan College.
Belfast City Council granted planning permission for the mixed-use hotel and student accommodation scheme in November 2015, after McAleer & Rushe acquired the site the previous year.
The 14-storey hotel on Brunswick Street will be called the Maldron and represents an investment of £21m.
Demolition of the site has already begun and construction is due to start in June 2016.
The hotel is expected to be completed in the first half of 2018.
Dermot Crowley, deputy chief executive, business development and finance at Dalata, said: "This new hotel continues the rapid expansion of the Maldron brand on the island of Ireland, and we look forward to working with McAleer & Rushe on the development."
Consarc Design Group has designed the development, which will comprise restaurants, bars and meeting and conference space.
McAleer & Rushe also has plans for an adjacent 476-room student housing scheme on McClintock Street and 804-room student housing scheme on College Avenue.
The hotel and two student housing schemes will create more than 300 jobs during the building phase.
