Tim Axe honoured at British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame
Tim Axe, commercial director at Benugo, part of WSH, has won the Young Manager Award at the British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame, which took place at the Dorchester hotel, London, this evening.
Axe, a 2014 Acorn Award winner, beat off stiff competition in the Young Manager category from rising stars Chris Broderick, general manager at Jurys Inn Oxford, 2015 Gold Service Scholar Daniele Quattromini, general manager of Club Lounge 39, which is part of the CH&Co Group and Lusso Catering, Craig Jackson, general manager at the award-winning Lancashire hotel Northcote, and Will Prosser, mobile commercial manager at TUI Group.
The judges said that Axe, who was promoted from the role of business development director at sister company BaxterStorey last month, demonstrated strong business acumen, and was a high achiever who had the ability to think outside the box when looking for advantages in a very competitive environment.
"He is an active team player and drives development of his own team as well as influencing the wider business," they said.
"Tim is a natural leader and drives his team to continually deliver record sales growth, smashing not only internal targets but market expectations in recent years," added the judges. "A strategic thinker, he has played a major role in creating an inclusive, motivated team mentality, ensuring everyone from the kitchen porter to directors contribute to the same goals, which has played a huge part in the continued success of the organisation."
Other successes on the night included Young Entrepreneur Award recipient Harry Hastings of Ocean Holidays, and Business Achievement Award winner Jet 2. The Clove Club's Daniel Willis and Johnny Smith, both co-owners, were also shortlisted for the entrepreneur award.
In addition, the British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame welcomed new inductees Robin Hutson, chairman & chief executive, Lime Wood Group and Home Grown Hotels, presented by Helena Egan of TripAdvisor; Alastair Storey, chairman and chief executive of WSH, presented by Ufi Ibrahim of the BHA; Albert Roux, chairman of Chez Roux and Michel Roux, global ambassador of the Waterside Inn in Bray, both presented by Andrew Selley of Bidvest; and from the travel sector, Chris Photi, head of Travel & Leisure at WHA, and Manfredi Lefebvre, chairman of Silversea, Peter Stephens, managing director of Lotus Group.
Run in partnership with The Caterer's sister brand, Travel Weekly Group, the Hall of Fame honours outstanding business achievement in the travel, hospitality, leisure and tourism sectors.
