Brewdog on hunt for hotel site in Aberdeen

Craft beer brewery Brewdog is set to open a hotel after raising £19m in its latest Equity for Punks crowdfunding campaign.

The idea for a hotel, first mooted last year in a posting on the brewery's website, was dependent on the success of the company's fundraising venture.

This week the company told The Caterer the hotel will go ahead following the fundraising as one of a number of projects financed by the £19m of funds it has raised from its crowdfunding venture.

Martin Keith, openings and projects manager at Brewdog, said: "The hotel is in our plans and we are currently looking at a site in Aberdeen or in Ellon, near our brewery. It will be funded from what we have raised."

Keith said the hotel would be a boutique establishment and would be run directly by the company.

Asked if it was aimed at Brewdog fans, Keith said: "We actually have a lot of clients who have difficulty finding hotels to stay in when they come to see us so the hotel will be used extensively by Brewdog."

In true Brewdog style the post suggested the hotel could have Punk IPA on draft in every room, rooms named after hops, beer baths, home brew kits, mattresses filled with smoked malt and a dog in a concierge hat.

Proceeds from the company's fourth Equity for Punks fundraising drive will also finance the expansion at its Ellon brewery and part-fund a $30 million new brewery development in Columbus, Ohio.

The company will launch a US crowdfunding drive, Equity for Punks USA, this year to fund its US expansion plans.

It is also planning to launch production of its bespoke distillery business Lone Wolf next month and is also planning to open new bars in Amsterdam, MalmÁ¶ and Warsaw.
