Adam Smith appointed executive chef at Coworth Park

Former Roux scholar Adam Smith is to join Coworth Park, the Dorchester Collection's country house hotel near Ascot, Berkshire, as executive chef in the summer.

He will move to the five-AA-star, 70-bedroom hotel from the four-red-AA, 40-bedroom Devonshire Arms in Bolton Abbey, North Yorkshire, where he has been executive chef for three years.

Smith will replace Simon Whitely who left Coworth Park in February to take on the role of director of food and beverage at the new private member members' club, the Devonshire Club, which is due to open in the City of London in June.

Zoe Jenkins' general manager at Coworth Park, described Smith as "one of the UK's most talented chefs" under the age of 30.

"He has been described as ‘one to watch' by chef Michel Roux Snr. I am delighted he is joining the team, and excited to see the transition he will bring to Coworth Park's restaurants and events."

Smith who was named as the Roux Scholar in 2012, following on from his success as an Acorn Award winner the year earlier, added that he is looking forward to shaping the future of Coworth Park's culinary future. "I am excited to be joining Dorchester Collection's Coworth Park; it is one of the UK's very best country house hotels".

In his new role, Smith will oversee the two-AA-rosette Restaurant Coworth Park, alongside the casual dining outlet the Barn, the Bar, Spatisserrie in the hotel's spa, in-room dining and four banqueting rooms.

Smith's prize for winning the Roux Scholarship was a stage working with chef Yanick Alleno at the Dorchester Collection's Paris property, Le Meurice.

Smith is no stranger to winning awards - his impressive tally of accolades include the British Culinary Federation Young Chef Award 2010, Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Annual Awards of Excellence 2011, Observer Food Monthly Young Chef of the Year 2012, and Craft Guild of Chefs Restaurant Chef of the Year 2015.
