Tate Modern to open new restaurants as part of £260m expansion
The new-look and expanded Tate Modern, which will open next month following a £260m renovation, will see the introduction of several restaurants.
In the new 10-storey Switch House, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, will be a ground floor bar, a members' room, the Switch House Restaurant on the ninth floor and a 10th floor viewing room.
The existing Boiler House building will include a café on the ground floor, a refreshed members' bar on the fifth floor and a new kitchen and bar on the sixth floor.
As a result of the new eateries the art gallery is looking to recruit 120 people to cover the food and beverage offering at the venue.
Jeroen Schuijt, CEO, Tate Enterprises, said "With the new building comes the opportunity to extend our talented team of chefs and staff. With around five million visitors a year to Tate Modern, we will deliver exceptional food and drink for many people."
He added: "We work with the best ingredients, using expert suppliers to deliver excellent food and drink and everyone contributes to this. I only want people who are truly passionate about food and service on my team."
Tate Modern will open on 17 June and will offer 60% more gallery space. The project was originally meant to be completed in time for the London 2012 Olympics, but it soon become clear it was not going to be achieved.
Tate Catering, which provides all food and beverages at the Tate Galleries, will be holding recruitment open days on the following dates:
• Saturday 7 May, 10-4pm and Monday 9 May 2pm-8pm: Kitchens: commis, demi and chefs de partie
• Sunday 8 May, 10-4pm and Tuesday 10 May 2pm-8pm: Front of House: supervisors, baristas, bartenders, general assistants, waiting staff, runners and hosts.
