Open invitation to attend memorial service for Tim Bacon, founder of Living Ventures

A memorial service is to be held in Manchester for Tim Bacon, the founder of the Living Ventures bars and restaurants group who died last month, at the age of 52.

Bacon, together with business partner Jeremy Roberts, created some of Manchester's most successful restaurants and bars including Alchemist, Australasia and Gusto.

He fought lymphoma for 16 years and was diagnosed with advanced melanoma in 2014.

There is an open invitation for anyone to attend the service, which will be held at the Albert Hall on Peter Street in Manchester on Monday 16 May at 1pm.

It has emerged that Bacon's 11-year-old nephew, Jett Bacon, died five days after the passing of Bacon. Jett had been diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, 14 months ago.

A fundraising page has now been set up in memory of Bacon and his nephew to raise money for the Christie, which has been at the forefront of recent breakthroughs in the treatment of melanoma, and Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Charity.

A spokesperson for Living Ventures said: "In Tim Bacon's honour we have set up a charity page to raise funds for the Christie, where Tim spent so much of his time over the past couple of years and for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, where his beloved nephew Jett, tragically lost his own battle against the same foe in the very same week, aged 11.

"Don't be sad, Tim loved and lived life. He created livelihoods and brought us all together with a great deal of happiness as one big family. Each one of us now walks taller for knowing him. Feel free to come along and remember him with us."
