A look at the latest restaurants, hotels, pubs and bars to open their doors

No 197 Chiswick Fire Station

The end of April saw the opening of No 197 Chiswick Fire Station in west London. The old fire station has been re-imagined with a new design that opens up a forgotten courtyard. This is the fourth location belonging to bar group Darwin & Wallace, and it offers a relaxed, all-day experience with an open, utilitarian feel. The furnishings include traditionally made and upholstered sofas, terracotta tiles, handmade chunky oak chairs and cake tables, similar to those seen in sister locations No 32 The Old Town and No 1 Duke Street. Original artwork has been chosen in partnership with the Hang-Up Gallery in Stoke Newington. The cocktail menu has a selection of spirit infusions, house-made syrups and sherbets, including lavender Rob Roy, Tanqueray 10 gimlet and a range of local craft and international beers and lagers.
