Arsonists caught on CCTV dousing Prestwich restaurant in petrol
Arsonists have been caught on CCTV dousing a recently refurbished Prestwich restaurant in petrol and setting it alight in what could be an anti-semitic attack.
Cameras at the Ta'am Deli and Grill, a kosher restaurant in Bury New Road (in Greater Manchester), captured two men breaking into the property, pouring petrol all over the bar and floor, before setting light to it.
The restaurant, which became engulfed in flames almost immediately, was struck last Friday, just days before it was due to reopen.
Although the restaurant suffered a huge explosion and flames engulfed the premises, the damage caused has been described as minimal.
The restaurant's owner, Martine Vaizman, told TheBury Times: "I'm not sure it was a racially motivated attack although it's a concern. We think that it could have been out of jealousy because we've just relocated and put everything we have into making this new premises a success.
"It's just a miracle that the whole restaurant wasn't wiped out. It's cost us quite a lot to repaint and touch up everything that was damaged but it's minimal damage considering what happened."
The article went on to say that the couple, who are both Orthodox Jews, were observing Shabbat when the fire broke out.
Greater Manchester Police has launched an investigation into the incident.
