Carluccio's looking to open second York restaurant
Carluccio's has seen off fierce competition from rivals to clinch a deal that could see the restaurant group open its second restaurant in York.
The group has submitted plans to convert the former TSB bank and Swarovski shop in St Helen's Square into a 148-seater, three-storey restaurant with a delicatessen, creating 40 jobs.
According to property agents at CBRE's London office, Carluccio's has agreed a deal in principle following a marketing exercise launched last December, which saw around 15 restaurant groups bid for the sites.
Carluccio's already has a 100-seater concession in the Coppergate Centre's Fenwick department store in the city.
Plans for the second Carluccio restaurant in York are part of the group's wider strategy to open around 10 new venues this year.
In April Carluccio's announced a deal to open its 96th UK site, in the McArthur Glen designer outlet near Chester. It is also set to open a restaurant in Southampton's WestQuay development this summer, and opened its first outlet in a UK hotel in February at the London Marriott Regents Park.
