Lodore Falls hotel announces £7m development

A spa and brasserie-style restaurant are to be featured within a £7m expansion and renovation of the four-AA-star, 69-bedroom Lodore Falls hotel in Borrowdale, Cumbria.

Work will get under way at the hotel, which is part of the seven-strong Lake District Hotels, in January 2017 with a refurbishment of the existing public areas, including the restaurant, bar, lounges, lobby and function rooms. The new look, which is intended to create a contemporary feel to the 146-year-old property, is expected to be completed by summer 2017.

The existing leisure facilities, including an outdoor swimming pool and squash court, will then be demolished to make room for an extension which will include a restaurant overlooking Watendlath Beck, and spa with infinity pool and 18 additional bedrooms.

Charles Graves, director of the family-owned Lake District Hotels, said that the intention is that the hotel "remains synonymous with luxury" and maintains its position among the leading hotels in Cumbria.

"We are approaching the development with new and creative decisions while respecting the hotel's history and its beautiful surroundings."

Lodore Falls' sister properties include the Inn on the Square, the Skiddaw and Kings Arms hotels, all in Keswick; Borrowdale hotel, Borrowdale; George hotel, Penrith; and Inn on the Lake, Ullswater.
