Brewer and street food chef collaborate on east London restaurant
Hackney craft beer brewer Ed Mason and street food chef Rachel Jones are collaborating on Mason & Company, a new venture in Hackney Wick, east London, which brings together 20 draught beer taps and a selection of slow-cooked meat.
Mason, founder of the Five Points Brewing Company and Jones, founder of Capish?, plan to pair food and beers from independent brewers at Mason & Company, which will open on 17 June at Canalside in the Here East creative hub in Olympic Park.
Capish? dishes include the Meatball Hero, a combination of pork and beef balls, marinara, rocket and provolone cheese on a polenta-crusted sub. There is also the steak braciole, a 45-day aged steak slow-cooked for six hours in bone marrow and white wine stuffed with garlic, parsley, chilli and Pecorino Romano served in a buttermilk roll with melting Taleggio cheese.
Local firm Fleet Architects has kitted out the bar with canal-inspired lighting and fittings. The owners say these act as "an antidote" to the "ubiquitous" industrial spaces often found in such areas to create an "accessible, light and refined" atmosphere.
