BSA launches cafe accreditation scheme
The Beverage Standards Association (BSA) has launched an accreditation process aimed at raising standards across the hot drinks industry, open to all purveyors of pick-me-ups.
The BSA 2016 Accreditation process is open to all out of home cafes, specialised coffee shops, tea shops, cafes in hotels and bars, mobiles, beverage carts and restaurants in England, Scotland and Wales, both members and non-members. The deadline for entries is 17 June.
The initiative will award three accolades: raising standards; newcomers; and overall experience. Outstanding outlets, which score more than 95% in the accreditation process, will be awarded the BSA gold standard ‘5 Cup Accreditation', while a ‘4 Cup Certification' will be awarded to outlets that have scored above 86%. A ‘Recommended Certification" will go to those scoring 36% and over.
Entrants will be evaluated across all aspects of their businesses, such as environment, facilities, customer service and beverage standards.
BSA chairman Steve Slark said: "Our ethos is to raise standards. The process gives the beverage venue a good insight into how well [it is] performing. Entrants are assessed by experienced professionals and get immediate feedback and constructive advice, with the scores issued in seven days."
