Lord's to serve 10,000 afternoon teas during five-day test match
As the cricket season gets underway, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), owner of Lord's Cricket Ground has revealed details of how much food and drink it expects to serve during one five-day test match alone.
The hospitality team at the sporting venue anticipates serving 10,000 afternoon teas with 50,000 scones and cakes.
In addition it will provide 2,500 bacon rolls, 3,500 roast beef rolls and 13,000 lunches for members, debenture holders and hospitality boxes.
Around 21,000 pints of Pimms and 15,000 glasses of Champagne are also expected to be enjoyed by guests.
More than 3,000 customers per test match will be served hot sandwiches, pork pies and homemade scotch eggs from the newest food outlet at Lord's, WG's.
Located under the grandstand, the outlet is named after English cricketer Dr William Gilbert Grace.
In order to cater for breakfasts, lunches and dinners, the ground will buy more than a tonne of beef ribs, 400kg of bacon and 482kg of Scottish salmon for each day of a test match.
The first international match of the season at Lord's will be England v Sri Lanka from 9 June to 13 June.
At the end of last year, MCC recorded an 8% increase in turnover for its events business in 2015.
Lord's offers 12 spaces for meetings, conferences, receptions, dinners and weddings for up to 1,000 guests.
