Scottish Rugby seeks hotel investor and operator for Murrayfield
Scottish Rugby is seeking expressions of interest for a hotel development next to Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
The development is expected to be a mid-range operation (three to four stars) with between 100 and 200 rooms. JLL is handling offers from potential suitors.
The firm's director Keith McBain expects developers to show a high level of interest for the site, which is the home of Scottish rugby.
Scottish Rugby wants the successful bidder to work closely with its existing conference and events business, the Murrayfield Experience.
A spokesperson for JLL said that allowing for the selection process, construction was scheduled to begin in Q1 or Q2 next year, suggesting the hotel would open during summer 2018 at the earliest. He added that JLL had been fielding enquiries since launching the opportunity to market this morning. "It's early days but we consider it a positive start," he said.
While there are numerous hotels and guesthouses within half a mile of the stadium, most are small, family-run operations. The largest is the 44-bedroom Murrayfield Hotel.
JLL said Scottish Rugby would consider both branded and independent operators for the site.
