Operators across UK destinations set to enjoy increase in spending this Bank Holiday
Britain's seaside resorts are set for a welcomed financial boost this Bank Holiday weekend with Pembrokeshire coastal town Tenby expected to benefit the most, according to a report from payment processing company Worldpay.
A breakdown of consumer spending patterns around the spring Bank Holiday suggests that takings in cafes, pubs, restaurants and local tourist attractions in Tenby could rise by as much as 393% this weekend as tourists descend on the Welsh seaside town.
Coastal locations, including Skegness (159%) and Newquay (158%), see the second and third largest increase in spending, respectively, compared with an average weekend in May 2015.
It goes on to say that spending in cafes and fast-food chains will also benefit from the influx of tourists, with trading in places such as Bournemouth and Newquay set to be around 100% higher than an average weekend. Theme parks and local tourist attractions can also expect to double their takings over the weekend.
Away from the coast, cafes, pubs, restaurants and local points of interest are expected to be more than 140% busier than normal.
Dave Hobday, UK managing director at Worldpay, commented: "For businesses which are reliant on seasonal peaks in traffic, the spring Bank Holiday represents a massive date in the calendar as the opening of the summer season draws near.
"It's not only an opportunity to profit from an early influx of visitors but also to fine tune operations and analyse customer preferences and habits to ensure that businesses can make the most of the crucial summer trading period."
