Compass opens Subway at University Hospital Southampton
Compass Group UK & Ireland opened its ninth Subway with a new store at University Hospital Southampton, as part of its corporate partnership with the high-street brand.
The store will offer subs, flatbreads and salads to both patients and visitors. It joins other Compass operated sites throughout the UK including Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, Middlesex University and the University of Derby.
Compass is one of a number of businesses to partner with Subway to open stores in non-traditional locations such as convenience stores, forecourt sites, hospitals and universities. The brand now has more than 650 sites at such locations.
Greg Madigan, area development manager for Subway in the UK and Ireland, said: "The Subway brand partnership with Compass Group UK & Ireland is going from strength to strength. It is great to see the new store open at University Hospital Southampton, increasing Compass Group's number of Subway stores and further growing our portfolio of stores in healthcare environments.
"Non-traditional locations are a key area of growth for the Subway brand - the simple operations involved in running a store and the convenience offer make it a perfect fit for these style locations."
Steve Cenci, managing director of healthcare at Compass Group UK & Ireland, added: "Our feedback has shown that people welcome the familiarity of brands in a healthcare setting. Having a partner that is signed up to the UK's Government's Public Health Responsibility Deal and is delivering on the eight nutrition related pledges, ensures we are able to bring healthy choices to our customers."
Subway has more than 2,300 stores in the UK and Ireland and operates more than 44,000 stores worldwide.
