Camden pub owners to open Manchester music venue

The owners of the Lock Tavern in Camden have applied for planning permission to bring a former art auctioneers in Manchester back into use with the opening of a restaurant and music venue sporting a rooftop bar, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The former Capes Dunn art auctioneers on Charles Street in Manchester city centre was built in 1912 and is a three-storey arts and crafts-style building that has laid empty for almost a year.

The Manchester Evening News reported that the plans for the building include an outdoor terrace with a retractable canopy and views over the elaborate rooftop of Project 1898's Palace Hotel on Oxford Street, which itself is working with restaurateurs and DJs Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford, who own Volta in nearby West Didsbury.

The top floor of the Capes Dunn building will house a private party area, according to paperwork lodged with the council, while the ground floor would be used as a bar and restaurant. Live music performances will take place on the first floor.

The Lock Tavern's previous guests include the Klaxons, Adele, the Chemical Brothers and Florence & the Machine.

The proposals will go before the council's planning committee next month.
