Robert Cook departs Macdonald Hotels & Resorts

Robert Cook is to leave his role as chief operating officer of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts a year after he took up an official post in the business.

The independent hotel group, which operates 55 hotels and resorts across the UK, Ireland, Spain and Portugal made the announcement after informing staff that he would be leaving for a CEO role within the UK.

It is not known at this stage where Cook will be going but it is not thought to be a role within the hotel sector.

Cook is a well-known figure in the hospitality sector having previously headed up hotels for Malmaison, Hotel du Vin and De Vere. He started working for Macdonald as a consultant in 2014 and took up a role as commercial director in May 2015.

Deputy chairman and group managing director Gordon Fraser said: "We understand Robert's desire to take up a CEO role and thank him for his efforts since he joined us in 2014. I wish him every success in his new role.

"We have taken the necessary steps to reallocate Robert's responsibilities within the senior management team."

Cook said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Macdonald Hotels and Resorts and in particular I would like to say a special thank-you to both Donald Macdonald and Gordon Fraser who have been great people to work for during my tenure here.

"I sincerely wish Macdonald Hotels, and everyone associated, the very best in the future and wish them every success."
