Meatcure seeks crowdfunding backers to open five more restaurants

A Midlands burger chain is seeking crowdfunding backers to help it raise £350,000 and open five new restaurants.

Meatcure launched the campaign on Seedrs and 41 investors have so far contributed nearly £87,000, 25% of its total. The company is offering 8.56% in equity for those who invest during the campaign, which is set to close in mid-August.

The business opened its first restaurant in 2014 in Market Harborough in Leicestershire, offering burgers, steaks and salads inspired by New York's meatpacking district and southern BBQ.

Within a year it launched two more restaurants in Leicester and Leamington Spa. Its fourth opening in Bedford comes this month and has been totally self-funded from the success of the first three restaurants.

Now, Meatcure hopes to secure five new sites in market towns across the Midlands and beyond by 2017. The group has agreed on a fifth site in Hinkley and is looking at venues in Coventry, Nottingham, Rugby and Stamford.

Co-founder Paul Rigby said: "The way we build our restaurants is fast, fun and with a view to getting a good payback for our investors. It's not rocket science; it's mostly wood and lots of those trendy lightbulbs. Our aim is to create a backdrop for our impossibly good burgers, craft beers and killer cocktails."

Co-founder Rob Martyniak added: "Our fourth restaurant opening this month is 100% self-funded and our business model means that this campaign is expected to be our only round of crowdfunding, making now the only and best time to get involved."

Ekaterina Steube, campaigns success manager at Seedrs, said: "We are excited to welcome Meatcure on to Seedrs. The brand is all about great food, world-class customer experience and supporting local suppliers, and their campaign reflects that. The team is exceptionally focused with highly experienced founders and we look forward to seeing the business scale."
