Epic Pubs to launch third site as it looks to expand its portfolio

Pub and restaurant chain Epic Pubs is set to roll out its third pub, in Oakham in Rutland.

The company, which has secured £5m of investment for both freehold and leasehold properties, is planning to open further sites across the UK and is on the hunt for more sites, which could include accommodation.

The Mill Street Pub and Kitchen, leased from Punch, will open on 21 July following major refurbishment work and is Epic Pubs' first venue, which offers accommodation.

Located in the centre of Oakham, the 180-cover venue features an open kitchen, two private dining rooms including one with a private bar, an urban country courtyard garden with banquet seating and seven boutique bedrooms.

Epic Pubs is led by MD Andrew Coath, former managing partner at Peach Pubs and operations manager at Malmaison Birmingham. Coath said, "We are really excited to be entering the next phase of Epic's development with this new pub, which will build on the success of our two existing businesses. Each Epic establishment is unique in character and style, but with the same consistent standards of excellence in our food, drink and service.

"We are creating a collection of pubs that as well as offering beautiful boltholes for dining and drinking, are investing back into their local communities. Further sites are planned, including more with bedrooms."

Wayne McGarry, development manager at Punch, said, "We are delighted to have joined forces with Epic Pubs, who have an excellent portfolio of pubs as well as operational expertise. The redevelopment of the site brings Oakham a brand new sensational venue and we are looking forward to continuing working with them on the project and in the future".

Epic Pubs, founded in 2015, also runs the Golden Ball Pub & Kitchen in Maidenhead, Berkshire and 185 Watling Street Pub & Kitchen in Towcester, Northamptonshire, which both opened last year.

Epic's senior team includes group operations director Jonathan Taylor, The Caterer's Acorn Award winner 2012; central services director Wendy Twiddy who has 20 years travel and tourism industry experience and chef and director Mark Austin, whose experience includes the 5-star Luton Hoo Hotel and senior chef at the Swan at Salford, Buckinghamshire.
