More than 70% of hospitality professionals unaware of Apprenticeship Levy
Less than 30% of hospitality professionals are aware of the upcoming Apprenticeship Levy and future apprenticeship funding changes.
That's according to new research from The Caterer, in association with HIT Training. A survey of over 200 industry professionals revealed that only 28% were aware of the levy, set to be introduced in April 2017.
It will affect employers in all sectors but will only be paid on annual salary bills in excess of £3 million, and the government estimates that 2% of UK employers will pay it.
However, the Apprenticeship Levy also brings in new funding criteria for non-levy-paying companies, which means they will have to pay a mandatory financial contribution towards any apprenticeship programmes staff participate in.
Jill Whittaker, MD of HIT Training, said: "It's clear that there is an overwhelming need for clearer signposting to the information and resources already available. HIT has produced an Apprenticeship Levy Handbook [available to download here] and will be running a series of webinars and blogs to help guide businesses through the process as we count down to the Levy coming into effect in April 2017."
