Koffmann's at the Berkeley to close at the end of the year
Chef and restaurateur Pierre Koffmann is to close his London restaurant Koffmann's at the Berkeley at the end of this year.
The news comes as the hotel plans to redevelop the site.
The former chef-patron of the three-Michelin-starred La Tante Claire opened the venue in 2010 in the site of what was previously Gordon Ramsay's Boxwood Café.
It was a return to the hotel for Koffmann, who operated La Tante Claire at the hotel from 1998 until its closure in 2002.
Koffmann is celebrating 50 years in the kitchen this year and is renowned not just for his own career but also for helping to mentor several other famous British chefs including Gordon Ramsay, Marco Pierre White and Tom Kitchin.
"I really enjoyed cooking in a restaurant again. The kitchen is where I am happy. But we knew from the beginning it was only for a few years because the plan was to expand that side of the hotel," Koffmann said in an interview reported by Richard Vines on Bloomberg.com.
In a statement, the hotel said: "Koffmann's at the Berkeley will be closing at the end of December 2016. Pierre has been part of The Berkeley family for many years and whilst of course we are sad to lose the restaurant we are already discussing other possible plans together for the future."
