New BBQ brand MeatUp opens first site in London

New BBQ brand MeatUp, created by the former nightclub owner behind Libertine and Raffles, has opened its first site in Wandsworth Town, south London.

The 50-cover restaurant and 37-cover bar, created by Sachin Khanna, has hired head chef Stephen Hinkley, previously of Meatopia and Foxlow (Hawksmoor Group). The menu is based around British ingredients from British butchers and farmers.

The brunch menu includes house-salted brisket hash with fried duck eggs, and smashed avocado served on sweet potato ‘toast' with a poached egg and dill yogurt. Mains include a selection of large sharing plates, featuring smoked salt and pink peppercorn squid, ale-braised pig's cheeks, and 24-hour marinated short rib. Sharing roasts will be served on Sundays.

The menu will also showcase British seasonal vegetables, fish and seafood, with grilled asparagus, courgettes, Jersey Royals, and monkfish and pepper skewers.

The bar's cocktail list has a summer feel, featuring a ‘Lemon Curd Collins' made with Beefeater gin, lemon curd, yellow Chartreuse, lemon juice and tonic. An extensive Prosecco list will see a wide range of DOC label wines from the Veneto regions, including Vaporetto and Valdobbiadene, as well as ‘skinny Prosecco', Secco. Beers from Meantime Brewery and bottled craft beers of Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted, Hammerton Pentonville, Big Hug Himalayan, and Hoxton Harry Masters Mary will also be available.

The bar will play host to live music every Thursday showcasing acts ranging from blues, soul, jazz, swing and acoustic, in addition to regular DJs and ‘bring your own vinyl' nights.

The venue was designed by Keane Designs, featuring an atrium with bare bricks, repurposed wood and a living wall of ivy around the open-plan kitchen, dining counter and sky light, evoking an urban, backyard feel.
