Diners hit by unmarked police car at London pizzeria
An unmarked police car crashed into the outside dining area of Soho House's Pizza East on Highgate Road, London, injuring two diners on Tuesday evening.
The officers driving the silver Vauxhall Astra were responding to an emergency call when they collided with another car, a black Nissan Qashqai, at Sanderson Close junction.
The unmarked vehicle then veered off the road and crashed into tables and chairs outside the restaurant before smashing into a bollard.
A man and a woman were injured by the Astra. According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, the man, believed to be in his 30s, sustained a head injury and was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition. The woman, also in her 30s, was treated at the scene and suffered minor injuries. The two police officers in the unmarked car were treated for whiplash.
Writing on Twitter, newsreader Zora Suleman, said: "One minute everyone was chatting and drinking, next sirens then a huge bang and people screaming."
The Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation into the crash and anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
