Pride of Britain picks up two new members

Sales and marketing consortium Pride of Britain has named two new member hotels, taking its total to 49, one short of its self-imposed limit.

The four-AA-star, 96-bedroom the Headland hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, and the five-AA-red star, 17-bedroom Glenapp Castle (pictured) in Ballantrae, South Ayrshire, were voted into the sales and marketing consortia following a successful inspection and by a member hotelier.

Hotels are visited by mystery guests at least once every two years to ensure standards are maintained.

Pride of Britain chief executive Peter Hancock said: "This takes our membership up to 49, or 98% occupancy as I prefer to call it."

Earlier this year, the four-red-AA-star, 40-bedroom Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel & Spa in Bolton Abbey, North Yorkshire, left Pride of Britain, which is now 34 years old.
