AA awards five stars to Crossbasket Castle

The hotel opened in May following a £9m restoration of the property which, in parts, dates back to the 15th century.

Steve Timoney, chief executive of Lochlane Investments, and his wife Alison Reid-Timoney bought the property in 2011, a year after it was listed on Scotland's Buildings At Risk Register. During the renovation, they added a ballroom for up to 250 guests, which overlooks the waterfalls on the River Calder.

Crossbasket Castle is operated by Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI), while the restaurant, which has been awarded two AA rosettes, is overseen by Albert and Michel Roux Jnr.

Ryan Davidson, the hotel's general manager, said the five-star rating from the AA represented "the passion and dedication" that has gone into creating a luxury experience at the property.

"Since opening in May we've received great feedback from guests and look forward to sharing more of the spectacular castle with our visitors," he said.

Crossbasket Castle is one of 13 luxury properties managed by ICMI in Scotland.
