Chris Birch, marketing manager at Hobart Warewash, is to compete in the Springboard Charity’s Team Velo challenge, to raise money for young and disadvantaged people in the industry.
Birch has taken part in two cycle challenges for charity in the past, completing Team Velo Challenge in 2015, and in 2011 he cycled almost 400 miles from Paris to Peterborough.
He said: “Even as an avid cycler, the Team Velo Challenge takes serious dedication and effort and I hope that with my preparation, 2016 will be the fastest time yet. Having worked in hospitality for the past 27 years, at both operational and supply level, I have seen the important work Springboard does for those facing barriers into our industry – and know that, despite the tired legs, we will, with every rotation, be helping to create more pathways into this fantastic industry.”
He aims to raise £500 for the charity.
The challenge, which is supported by Pullman Hotels and in partnership with Sky, will see 25 cyclists travel 240 miles from London to Paris 22-24 September.
Alison Dolan, deputy managing director for Sky Business, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting this fantastic challenge, which helps to raise vital funds for the charity to help positively change the lives of many in the hospitality industry. We are looking forward to participating and sharing in what is sure to be a highly motivating experience for all involved.”
