National Trust awarded Food for Life Catering Mark

The National Trust has been awarded the Soil Association's Bronze Food for Life Catering Mark at 134 historic buildings, coast and countryside places across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The two organisations have been working together for the past two years, looking at the food on offer at the conservation charity's 300 or more cafés, tearooms and restaurants.

Through the Food for Life Catering Mark the National Trust has carried out a review of all of its, suppliers and the quality of ingredients used.

He added: "Working with the Soil Association was an obvious choice for us - an organisation that shares our commitment to providing food with provenance and integrity. The Food for Life Catering Mark helps us to explain to our members and supporters how, as a food business, we're different. "We're starting with bronze standard but our goal is to continue to improve our sourcing standards over the next two to three years and we're excited to have started the journey."

The Catering Mark provides an independent endorsement for caterers that are taking steps to improve the food they serve.

It now serves more than 1.6 million meals to schools, nurseries, hospitals, universities, workplaces and other venues.
