The Greenhouse ‘bitterly disappointed' by one-star hygiene rating

Two-Michelin-starred restaurant the Greenhouse, in Mayfair, London, has been given a hygiene rating of one out of five following an inspection from Westminster City Council.

The inspection, carried out on 8 July, found hygienic food handling and management of food safety to be generally satisfactory, but the restaurant faltered on the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building.

This criteria required ‘major improvement' to areas including ‘layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control'.

In response to the rating, the Greenhouse released a statement: "The conditions found at the time of the inspection were not typical of the normal conditions maintained at the establishment. The Greenhouse strives for the highest possible standards of food quality and safety.

"We were bitterly disappointed by the poor food hygiene rating. At no time has the quality of the food that we serve to our customers been compromised. We therefore look forward to having Westminster City Council return for a follow-up assessment in the near future. In the meantime, we continue to work in partnership with our external food hygiene consultants to maintain the highest standards at all times."

The Greenhouse was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
