Former hotelier dies in tractor accident

Former hotelier Stephanie Booth has been crushed to death in a tractor accident.

The one-time owner of the Llangollen Hotels Group, who featured in a BBC TV documentary about her business called Hotel Stephanie, died in the accident on her farm near Corwen, Denbighshire, on Sunday evening. She was 70.

Her husband, David, who went to look for her when she failed to return home, told the BBC: "She was mowing, ready to put sheep in one of our fields when she went too close to the top of a bank. The tractor rolled down about 20ft and overturned. Stephanie was dead when I found her."

Booth, who was born Keith Hull, openly talked about her transgender journey after undergoing a sex change operation at London's Charing Cross Hospital in 1983. She had previously been married and had three children. She and her husband had an adopted child together.

Booth left the hotel industry in 2013 when she sold Ye Olde Anchor Inn in Ruthin, Denbighshire, to Ruthin School, a co-educational day and boarding establishment.

She had previously run Llangollen Hotels Group, which at its height operated seven hotels in North Wales and Cheshire before it, and its parent company Global Investments Group, collapsed into administration in 2011.

In recent years, Booth focused her interests on her farm, Yattar Yattar; a lifestyle magazine for Wales, Shropshire and Cheshire; and a mail order business aimed at transgender people.
