Ex Corbin & King manager launches Mexican taqueria
A Mexican-style restaurant called Corazón taqueria is set to launch on Poland Street in London's Soho in November 2016.
The casual venue, inspired by Mexico City's Condesa neighbourhood, is the passion project of Laura Sheffield, a native Texan via New York city, who has spent over 10 years managing pubs and restaurants including Corbin & King's Fischer's and the Riding House Café, both in London.
Sheffield discovered her love of Mexican cuisine while growing up in Texas.
The menu at her new venture, from chef Paul Daniel, was developed during several journeys through Mexico's distinct culinary regions and along the coast of California. It focuses on a selection of 10 signature tacos, along with some more adventurous daily specials.
Corazón, which will be open seven days a week, will also offer a selection of ceviches, tostadas and salads. At lunch the menu will include torta ahogada (a ‘drowned sandwich' of pork carnitas, chile de àrbol salsa and pickled onions) and a pozole rojo (a traditional stew of pork shoulder, hominy and toasted ancho chili). Desserts will include a tres leches cake served with cajeta ice-cream.
The drinks list will feature margaritas, agave- and rum-based cocktails, as well as imported Mexican and American beers.
There will also be a Mexican brunch menu on Saturday and Sunday, and a selection of breakfast tacos.
The 55-seater restaurant will feature a concrete-topped terrazzo bar and reclaimed terracotta tile floors, with a small open kitchen in which fresh tortillas will be prepared.
Corazón will offer all-day dining seven days a week, serving food and drink until midnight Thursday to Saturday. There will be a limited number of larger tables available for reservation, along with space for walk-ins.
