Hippo Inns to open Islington Townhouse

Hippo Inns is set to open a new pub in north London in the heart of Angel, called the Islington Townhouse.

The company, co-founded by Rupert Clevely and Ian Edward, has secured a site at 13 Liverpool Road, which is set to open this winter.

It features a large bar area and 42-cover dining space upstairs, offering seasonal small plates, craft beer and cocktails.

The venue will be set across three floors including a snug, open bar area and upstairs dining area available for hire for up to 26 covers.

Modern light fittings and artwork will be juxtaposed with traditional British pub features including wooden beer pumps, wingback chairs and original features from the building.

Typical dishes, created by head of food Zoe Reed and head chef Stan Perry, will include a twice-baked Gruyère soufflé, octopus carpaccio, monkfish kebab, 35-day aged steak tartare and burnt sugarplums with marshmallow crumble. General manager will be Gavin O'Brien.

Clevely co-founded Geronimo Inns with his wife Jo in 1995 before selling it to Youngs in 2010 for £60m.
