Hoxton owner Ennismore to partner with taco brand
Ennismore, owner of the Hoxton hotel brand and Gleneagles, is backing the first permanent site for pop-up taco brand Breddos.
Set to open in Clerkenwell, London, in November, the 40-seat Breddos Taqueria will focus on regional Mexican and Pocho (Mexican-American) cuisine using the best of British produce.
The restaurant will take its inspiration from the roadside taquerias visited by founders Nud Dudhia and Chris Whitney and will be open all day from breakfast through to dinner.
After originally launching in a makeshift taco shack in a car park in Hackney, Breddos went on to launch supper clubs and take up temporary residencies in Soho bar, the Player and at Trip Space in Haggerston.
Dishes will include Austin-style tacos and blueberry churro French toast for breakfast; and tacos, tostadas and tlayudas (Mexican pizzas), alongside salsa verde-braised chicharrón (pig skin) and tikin xic (Yucatan grilled fish) for lunch, all priced between £2 and £5. The evening menu will expand to include items from the wood grill, such as spit-roast Iberico pork al pastor with roasted pineapple, and larger sharing dishes from the regions of Sonora and Guadalajara, such as mutton barbacoa and beef rib birria.
Breddos Taqueria will offer a large sharing table for 10 alongside counter and bar seating, while customers will be able to select music from an extensive vintage vinyl collection.
Dudhia, who is the head chef, said: "After years of trading on the streets, we're super-excited to find a permanent home where we can spread our wings."
Sharan Pasricha, chief executive and founder of Ennismore, added: "We are continually on the lookout to partner with people and back ideas that excite us. Breddos are incredibly talented and we look forward to collaborating with them on their journey."
In addition to its hotel businesses, Ennismore also runs Eggbreak in Notting Hill and will soon launch Tandoor Chop House in Covent Garden.
