Foodservice Cateys 2016 winners revealed

Phil Hooper, who will leaving Sodexo UK & Ireland early next year after 40 years' service with the company, was tonight's winner of the Outstanding Contribution award at the 2016 Foodservice Cateys.

The popular figure was recognised for his tireless work, not only with his career at Sodexo, but also the wider hospitality industry.

He joined Gardner Merchant, which later became Sodexo, in 1976 as a management trainee and has since worked in a variety of roles including operations, sales, corporate affairs and communications.

The 2011 Cateys Foodservice Caterer Award winner was appointed to his current role of brand and communications director in August 2015 and has been involved in developing and promoting the brand globally for the justice and defence segments.

Hooper has also represented the industry in trade associations including the British Hospitality Association and the British Services Association as well as the Springboard Charity as a member of the board of trustees.

Meanwhile, independent caterer Bartlett Mitchell scored a hat trick of awards as did BaxterStorey and Compass Group, which saw its sports and leisure business, Levy Restaurants, and executive dining division, Restaurant Associates, both honoured on the night.

Neil Porter, operations director south for BAM Facilities Management and honorary chair of the events group for the Lead Association for Catering in Education (LACA) walked away with the Extra Mile Award for his contribution to the education sector.

The Foodservice Cateys was hosted by stand-up comedian Rob Beckett and attended by more than 500 guests. The evening raised funds for the Springboard Charity.
