First of seven ‘department stores of dining' to open next month

The first of a group of seven new "department stores of dining" is set to open in London at River Plate House in South Place next month.

The Kitty Hawk will be run by the Wright & Bell group, founded by managing director Jayne Bell, a former director of Mitchells & Butlers.

Backed by private equity firm Imbiba Partnership, Wright & Bell promises to be in a similar vein to brands like Smith & Jones, Thomas & Carter, Lewis & Clarke and Drake & Morgan.

Opening on 17 November, the Kitty Hawk aims to cater to all of the needs of the city's food lovers, day and night and all under one roof. Departments include a bar and kitchen area for all day drinking and dining from 7am to midnight, a grill restaurant, cocktail bar, private dining room and a speciality coffee bar and patisserie, that will evolve at night into a wine bar for private hire.

Interiors have been designed by Russell Sage with inspiration taken from the City of London's heritage and New York city glamour. The result is a mix of exposed timber and concrete, blackened steel, copper, marble and hand-stitched leather seating.

Baker said: "Wright & Bell is influenced by the great inventors of our past, Sir Alexander Graham Bell and the Wright Brothers, who dared to dream, and taught the world to fly. We are the creators and architects of ‘The Department Stores of Dining', bringing together a dynamic mix of drinking, dining, working and retail experiences. Following The Kitty Hawk, we plan to develop six venues across the City of London and West End, to bring a new elegance to the London Market."
