Grind to open in Clerkenwell

Coffee and cocktails group Grind is launching an all-day restaurant and late-night bar in Clerkenwell.

Opening in November at the Grade-II listed 2-4 Old Street, Clerkenwell Grind will span over 3,000 square feet, across two floors, with pink velvet booths, sweeping marble bars and royal blue panelling.

Led by head chef Mauro Di Leo, the weekday breakfast menu will offer creative twists on the usual Grind breakfast, with new dishes such as beetroot-cured salmon and kimchee, and mushroom breakfast croquettes. Weekend breakfast options include truffle hash topped with poached duck egg, and French toasted banana bread, all accompanied by Grind House Blend coffee, roasted half a mile down the road in Shoreditch.

At lunchtime, dishes from the charcoal oven will be on offer, with small plates such as Isle of Mull scallops with samphire, aubergine and goat's curd, and main courses of miso-glazed lamb spare ribs and red snapper.

The venue will also have a downstairs Club-Bar, where cocktails will be served until 2am.

The group, first launched by David Abrahamovitch and Kaz James in 2011 in Shoreditch, has six locations across London. It opened Covent Garden Grind, Royal Exchange Grind and a roastery in Shoreditch over the last year, funded by £1.3m in crowdfunding.

Co-founder David Abrahamovitch said: "Clerkenwell Grind is our new perfect night out. Properly good cocktails in the bar upstairs, dinner with friends in the dining room next door, and then downstairs to carry on in one of the few spaces left in London that has a great sound system and a late licence, but no one makes you pay to get in or buy anything with a sparkler in it."
