Michelin-starred chef Josh Eggleton and former Butcombe Brewery managing director Guy Newell have bought the Kensington Arms pub in Redland, Bristol.

The pub, known to locals as the Kenny, will undergo refurbishment to create a relaxed, informal space. The two upstairs function rooms will be redeveloped and a new bar installed, and it will reopen in November.

The current team at the Kensington Arms is being kept on with the addition of Ali Yuill from Salt and Malt and the Pig near Bath, who will take over as general manager; and Luke Hawkins, who Eggleton trained at the Pony & Trap, who will take the role as head chef.

Eggleton, who is currently taking part in the final week of Great British Menu, said: "The Kensington Arms already has a great reputation for food and we'll be adding to that by taking it back to its roots and emphasising its traditional British pub cuisines, sourced well, with daily-changing specials."

Newell was managing director of Butcombe Brewery from 2003 until it was sold to the Liberation Group in 2015. During his time there Newell ran 20 pubs including the Cottage Inn on Baltic Wharf, Bristol, and the Pig & Fiddle on Saracen street in Bath.

The pub will serve a wide selection of wines, spirits and beer, including Butcombe Bitter.

Newell said: "I love the great British pub - at Butcombe we owned 20, including the fantastic Cottage Inn on Baltic Wharf Bristol, and the famous Pig & Fiddle in central Bath. My wife Becky and I fell in love with the Kenny the first time we visited, and were naturally keen to join Josh in this exciting new venture."
