Hospitality firms urged to embrace Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday, the annual campaign that puts small companies in the spotlight, is encouraging independent hospitality businesses to get involved on 3 December.
Recent government business population figures indicated small and micro-sized hotels and similar accommodation providers were responsible for just over 30% of employment in the trade, and have seen a turnover increase of 8.3% in the last year.
Small Business Saturday, a grassroots, not-for-profit campaign, was founded by American Express in the US in 2010 and encourages consumers to shop small. Small firms can visit smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com to send off for, download and print free marketing packs, which include posters and window stickers to support the campaign. Also available on the website are digital logos, banners, a social media guide and various toolkits.
National campaign director Michelle Ovens said: "Independent hospitality businesses play a huge role in the UK small business sector and the identities of their respective local communities. Across the last few years, small hotels, B&Bs and other accommodation providers have been an integral part of our campaign and we are looking forward to seeing even more great independents getting involved in the weeks ahead.
