Andras House Hotels is to open the first Crowne Plaza hotel in Northern Ireland in the midst of a £3m refurbishment of its Ramada Plaza Belfast hotel at Shaw’s Bridge.

The rebranding will take place in December following the recent refurbishment of the hotel’s grand ballroom, lobby and conference suite. The 120 bedrooms are to be upgraded over the next 18-months, at a cost of £1.5m.

Andras House Hotels operates five branded hotels in Belfast, including the Holiday Inn Belfast City Centre and Holiday Inn Express Belfast City Queens Quarter, which it owns and operates, and the Ibis Belfast City Centre. Work has recently begun on its Hampton by Hilton, the first in Northern Ireland.

Rajesh Rana, director of Andras House Hotels, said: “Crowne Plaza is recognised worldwide as a market leading upscale hotel brand and this has been in our strategy for quite some time. The Crowne Plaza Belfast will be an asset to the Belfast tourism market and will help Visit Belfast and the Waterfront hall attract international delegates to the city.”

Lewis McCallan, head of the corporate trading team at Danske Bank, which funded the investment, said: “We support many of the key hospitality providers locally and are delighted to work again with Andras Hotels to develop their presence in Northern Ireland. We were excited when we heard about the proposal to open the Crowne Plaza Shaw’s Bridge and we recognise this will be a significant boost to both Andras Hotels and to the wider local economy”.

Crowne Plaza is the upscale, full-service hotel brand from InterContinental Hotels Group.
