David Croft wins Unsung Hero at Cornwall Tourism Awards
Former chef at the Savoy hotel in London, David Croft, has won the Unsung Hero award at the Cornwall Tourism Awards.
Croft, now a campaigner and author, saw his life changed forever when a diving accident left him paralysed from the shoulders down.
In 2012, he published his book Food For Thought, part autobiography and part cookbook, sales of which contribute towards the industry charity Hospitality Action and also to Regain - the trust for sports tetraplegics.
In addition to working at the Savoy and Churchill hotels in London, along with hotels in Cornwall, Croft competed on two occasions in the British karate championships and was on the verge of being chosen for the England under-21 karate squad before he went to Bermuda to work. It was while on Bermuda that Croft had his diving accident.
Speaking about winning his award, Croft said: "To get the award of Unsung Hero at the Awards held at the Headland Hotel in Newquay was very gratifying indeed.
"I was very grateful that Angus Clark, CEO of TJ International in Padstow nominated me and also for all his superb support in printing my book Food for Thought, which helps the industry charity Hospitality Action and Regain - The Trust for Sports Tetraplegics."
As a winner of these awards, Croft will now be considered for the South West Tourism Awards which take place in January 2017.
