Corinthia assesses mental resilience of staff with neuroscientist in residence

Corinthia hotel London is looking to get into the minds of its guests and employees having launched a series of brain power packages developed by its neuroscientist in residence, Dr Tara Swart.

The packages created by the MIT Boston senior lecturer have been designed to provide the optimum conditions for brain power performance, with revised menus including cognition-boosting ingredients such as coconut oil and leafy greens, and spa experiences developed to stimulate the brain.

During the 13-month residency Swart will also research the mental resilience of hotel staff and business guests to inform a brain power study that will be presented at the end of her stay.

The brain power residential package (from £618) includes an overnight stay in a superior king room featuring heated floors to encourage barefoot walking and sleep inducing lavender pillow sprays, dinner and breakfast from the brain power menu, a mindful massage and Yoga Nidra. A day spa package (£280) is also available which includes a two-hour brain power ritual, a light lunch from the brain power menu in the spa lounge, and access to the thermal floor and unique sleep pods.

Launching the initiative with an insights into leadership and how the brain impacts performance, Swart said that 20-30% of what guests eat and drink is used by the brain, making diet linked to performance. She added that a good night's sleep was essential to maximum performance, and that eating the right foods, such as magnesium-rich nuts and seeds, fat-rich avocado, oily fish, buckwheat and quinoa grains provided essential nutrients to nourish, protect and repair brain cells.
