Royal Clarence hotel could be rebuilt using 3D laser scans

The Royal Clarence hotel in Exeter, which was destroyed by a fire last month, could be rebuilt using a 3D laser scan made by CAD solutions company, Excitech.
Two years ago during a seminar at the Excitech BIM Roadshow, the company scanned the Cathedral Green area in which the four-AA-star, 53-bedroom hotel was included.
The dimensions of the entire front of the hotel were recorded with an accuracy of up to 0.01 millimetres including window frames, doors and irregular dimensions otherwise not detailed on drawings.
Excitech has offered the 3D scan, or point cloud, to the lead architect of the rebuild, free of charge.
